During this time of year, it’s inviting to hole up in your home under a heated blanket with a bowl of hot soup while binge watching Disney+; or, perhaps, you’re more inclined to throw on a heavy jacket and make the most of the snowy weather before coming back indoors to a cup of hot chocolate. Either way, as we get caught up enjoying the holiday season with its merry music and festive lights, it’s easy to forget how lonely and less fortunate others may be. Fortunately, there are easy ways to help others who do not have a warm home or food to rely on. Here’s a list of places you can give back to this holiday season.

Tri-State Food Bank

Instead of wasting food that doesn’t quite meet market standards– such as overproduced, foods labeled with special promotions, and cases that are damaged in transit—the Tri-State Food Bank safely stores these non-perishable, editable foods and disburses it to non-profit feeding organizations in a 33-county service are of the Tri-State. Aside from donating to this reputable cause, Tri-State Foodbank is looking for volunteers to help stock and carryout food. Evansville Rescue Mission

United Caring Services

Potter’s Wheel

Potter’s Wheel is a religious organization that seeks to provide basic needs, such as clothing and hot meals, and offer programs designed to educate people on the skills needed to help improve their circumstances. Patchwork Central

Since its beginning, Patchwork Central has continued to grow and provide a positive impact throughout the Evansville community. By providing a bicycle program for the homeless, they have been able to open more opportunities for those individuals. Additionally, they focus on serving individuals and families through a food pantry, provide neighborhood hospitality (telephone usage, coffee, etc), low rent facilities for other community organizations, and free art/education programs to at-risk children and youth. Whether you can volunteer your time and skills or needed items, Patchwork Central appreciates any help you can contribute: Volunteering at Patchwork Central
