Fall Merrymaking

You have probably noticed in the recent weeks following the fall equinox that the angle of the sun is slowly changing, and if you have an eye for detail, you have espied a smattering of leaves changing from green to yellows, oranges, and reds.  The oppressive humidity has lifted and even though we are still experiencing some very warm days, the days are shortening, and pumpkin spice everything has exploded everywhere.   With summer a distant memory, maybe you are thinking that it is time to take a day off for a change of scenery, or you are just looking to mix things up on a weekend day and try something different?  

The truth is, there are plenty of unique and diverting events happening in our little corner of the world.  Here is our list of fun community festivities this month.  Make sure you visit each event’s website or call ahead to find out what COVID-19 protocols are in place.

October 4-9  West Side Nut Club Fall Festival  This year marks the 100th anniversary of this epic landmark event.  Don’t forget your half pot tickets!  

October 10  Fiesta Evansville:  The region’s largest  Latino festival, held at Wesselman Park, complete with performances, exhibits, food booths, and other entertainment for the whole family. This event is the perfect way to make sure you make the most of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Running is always more fun when in full color and when it contributes to the good of the community!

October 10  Hudson and Reed Color Blitz  A Fun Run At Garvin Park:  have fun AND contribute to community outreach projects.

October 14-17 Eville Shindig:  If you like the Frog Follies, you will love this car-centric event.  

October 15-17 & 22-24  Boo at the Zoo  Don’t delay in reserving your ticket!  Spaces are limited, and some time slots have already sold out!  

October 15-17  Historic Newburgh Ghost Walks: a tradition you don’t want to miss, but make sure you buy your tickets well ahead of time! They sell out every year.

October 16  Literature in Music with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra.  This concert features a collaboration with the Evansville Civic Theatre in a semi-staged production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  

October 16  SWIRCA BrewFest:  Can you imagine 300 craft brew samples in one place?  Attend this Brew Fest and experience all the fun adult beverages with fellow revelers while playing games, listening to music, and eating from local vendors.  Plus it’s for a good cause!  All proceeds benefit SWIRCA and their mission to help aging individuals maintain their quality of life.  

October 16-17 Arts in Harmony Festival.  Spending time in New Harmony always feels like a mini-vacation.  A plethora of artists have adopted New Harmony as their home and this festival gives you the opportunity to celebrate and embrace the best of the best.  Learn even more on their facebook page:  Arts in Harmony.

October 16-17 Four Rivers Arts and Crafts  Held at the Dubois County Fairground, this event features 200 booths of handmade wares.  

October 17  NoCo Makers Market  Located on Carpenter Street in downtown Evansville, this quaint pop-up event will feature live music, a beer garden, over 30 makers’ booths, food trucks, and more!  

October 21  EPO Bourbon Series:  take in some innovating chamber music paired with bourbon tastings at the Dusty Barn Distillery in Mount Vernon, IN.  Must be at least age 21 to attend.  

October 23 Fall Heritage Day at Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum in Rockport, IN

October 26  Style Show and Dinner  Help raise funds for the Warrick County Museum at this diverting event held at the Rolling Hills Country Club.  Featuring styles by Chico’s Fashions

October 30  Halloween Stroll and Trunk or Treat Car Show On Main Street in Downtown Evansville!

Whether going to festivals or crawling through pubs, October is a great time to try some new adult beverages.

October 30  Halloween on Franklin:  A full day of fun for the whole family starting with a costume contest and fun run at 8:00 AM and ending that night with a pub crawl.  Check out the website for more details regarding trick-or-treating and the monster bash!

October in Southwest Indiana is particularly chock-full of a multitude of fun diversions.  We are so excited to revisit some of these traditions that were cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our list just scratches the surface of the endless possibilities that are waiting to be discovered.  This October is the perfect time to start a new tradition or revisit your old ones. The time is NOW!
