The countdown is on to Super Bowl LVII which will be held Sunday, February 12. Even if you’re not a fan of football and prefer the commercials and/or the halftime show, the game provides a great excuse for gathering with friends and family and indulging in great food and drinks.

If you’re hosting the football festivities in your home this year, don’t worry. Whether you are rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs or the Philadelphia Eagles, don your favorite football gear and get ready to prep your home for the big event.

8 Steps to Throw a First-String Super Bowl Party

1. Prep the Entryway – Set up your entryway to make it easy to store shoes, hang coats, and move people through as quickly as possible. If you don’t have a traditional entryway look for a coat rack, and some inexpensive baskets where you can store items for your guests.

2. Prep Your Living Room Or Family Room – First and foremost, make sure your television is working and the channel is autotuned for the big game. If you don’t have a home media room furnished with a number of comfy recliners, the next thing you’ll want to do is prep for extra seating. Take an inventory of the current seating elements in your home — armchairs, folding chairs, ottomans– anything moveable and sturdy enough to sit on. If needed, make use of extra, unused pillows and cushions to create casual seating on the floor.

3. Prep Your Kitchen – This room is always the epicenter of the party as people search out eating utensils, napkins, and of course, food. Make room for everything by cleaning off the countertops in your kitchen. Then, as it’s time to bring out the food and utensils, you will have plenty of room to set up. Silverware caddies or baskets keep utensils out in the open but still organized.

If you have guests with food allergies or dietary preferences, single out a space for these “specially prepared” items and keep clean utensils reserved for this space only. Your guests will appreciate the special attention!

4. Prep the Bathroom – Make sure your half bath is clean and well stocked with toilet paper, hand soap, tissues, hand towels, and other toiletries.

5. Prep the Decorations – Decorating with football-themed decorations will add to the excitement of the day. If everyone is rooting for the same team, decorate with those team colors in mind. If you’ll have Chiefs fans AND Eagle fans, napkins, plates, and party favors in Chiefs red and gold and Eagles green will make both sides happy.

6. Prep the Food – No matter what type of party you are hosting, it is important to provide plenty of variety in terms of food and beverages. Finger foods, chips, and salsa go a long way. Soups, savory stews, and chili – along with all the fixings — are always a big hit at large Super Bowl Parties because they are easy to prepare, serve a large crowd and clean up easily.

Offer light and healthy options as well and check in with guests who have dietary preferences or food allergies. If your party is a potluck or BYOB keep a list of what your guests are bringing so you don’t double up.

7. Prep the Drinks – If you have beer fans why not pick up some local craft brews from Myriad Brewery, Damsels Brew Pub, or Henderson Brewing Company. Don’t forget the wine, though. Check out local wineries for a few bottles of a good red and a good white. Check out Farmer and Frenchman, French Lick Winery, and Pepper’s Ridge Winery to name a few.

A supply of non-alcoholic drinks will be needed for those who don’t imbibe and also for any children. Sodas, juice boxes, and flavored waters will help keep everyone hydrated. And don’t forget the ice!

8. Prep the Games – A quick Google search for “Super Bowl Games” will result in several ways to keep your guests occupied…especially the ones who aren’t particularly interested in the game. Playing Super Bowl Bingo, Football Charades, or Super Bowl Trivia will definitely bring guests into a huddle and will add to the entertainment factor of your party.
