Going into the new decade is a time to reset or re-establish ourselves and our goals. As you begin to form your resolutions for this coming year, you might be looking into fitness-related ideas. If you’re interested in getting up and moving more — whether that’s walking or running — it’s always nice to set milestones for yourself. Whether your goal is to run in a race every month, achieve a quicker mile time, or maybe just enjoy being a part of a community event, signing up for a local race is a great way to keep you on track. To help you find a race you might be interested in, we’ve compiled a list of the upcoming races from January until the end of March in 2020:

Evansville Resolution Run

January 4, 2020

If doing a race on January 1st seems… awful, then luckily there’s another opportunity soon after to get a jumpstart on your 2020 goals. Evansville Resolution Run is held at Wesselman’s Park and 10% of the registration fee is given to Big Brother, Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana.

Freakin Freezin Race

January 19, 2020

I’m trying to imagine a more fitting name for a race this time of year and I can’t think of one unless there was one called “Frozen Tears Race.” This race is held at Deaconess Sports Park on Green River Road and has a maximum limit of 200 participants. Additionally, Evansville Cryo is offering a 3-minute freeze at pick up for only $20 and a recovery freeze after the race for the same price.

Hearts on Fire 5Kh

February 8, 2020

This 5k is the first race in the Screaming Eagles Running Series and is solely featured on the USI Campus. Join them this year to celebrate the racing series’ 10th anniversary run! Registering for multiple of this series’ races includes a discount, so if your goal is to do at least one 5k race per month, this is a cost efficient way to go.

Presidents’ Day Race

February 16, 2020

This celebratory 5k is ran at Deaconess Sports Park on a paved 1.05 mile track that is meant to be lapped 3 times. The proceeds benefit Viking youth boys & girls tennis, and the top 4 male and top 4 female contestants in each of the 13 various age groups will receive awards.

Bound the Mound Trail Run

March 7, 2020

If you like trail running then you might enjoy signing up for this pavement-free 5k, 10K, or 13.1 mile adventure. Located at Friedman Park in Newburgh, you can almost guarantee you won’t get bored with the scenic loop this race has to offer.

Run Into Madness

March 7, 2020

As the second race in the Screaming Eagles Running Series, you can enjoy this 7K by beginning with a loop around USI’s campus, followed by Schutte Road, then finishing on the Burdette bike path.

Run of Luck 7K

March 14, 2020

Starting and ending at Hadi Shrine in downtown Evansville, this St. Patrick’s Day-themed race is full of fun and typically better weather conditions than those in January and February. Three $100 cash prizes are awarded to three of the most festive, green outfits, and a post-race party will commence at the Red Fez.

Tri-State Mystery Race

March 21, 2020

If you’re wondering what the “mystery” is in this mystery race, it’s the distance you’ll be running. Phones and GPSs are discouraged to help keep the distance a mystery until the end of the race. The short distance race will be between a 4k and a 6k, while the longer distance race is between 7k and 11k.
