8 Places To Enjoy Some Outdoor Music

Memorial Day Weekend is upon us and you know what that means?  It’s time for outdoor music concerts and festivals!  Whether you’re near the Evansville, Jasper or Vincennes area, you’re sure to find your favorite genre nearby…and some of the concerts are even free! Of course, this list doesn’t include everything, so if there’s an event you want us to include, email info@fcte.com with details.

Evansville Park’s Foundation Music In the Park (June-August)

Starting its 7th season, the Evansville Parks Foundation’s Music In the Park kicks off at Akin Park on Thursday, June 2.  Join us this summer as we visit a total of seven parks in the Evansville area on select Thursdays through August 25, listening to local bands for a wide range of music tastes.  The concerts are free, but be sure to bring some money and your appetite as there will be plenty of on-site food trucks to satisfy your hunger pangs and sweet tooth.  Music In the Park is made possible through a trust and through sponsorships.  F.C. F.C. Tucker Emge’s own Kevin Axsom is the Parks Foundation Board of Directors president and is excited about this year’s season.  The music starts at 6:00 p.m. and runs until 8:00 p.m.  A couple of the parks also offer swimming and those pools will stay open later to accommodate the water lovers.  Bring blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers with your favorite beverages (non-adult or adult) in non-glass containers.

In the event of inclement weather on music day, the Board will make the decision to cancel by noon and will announce the cancellation on various social media outlets.  Be sure to follow F.C. Tucker Emge & Evansville Parks Foundation on Facebook for the latest updates.

W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival – Henderson, KY

Wednesday, June 15 – Saturday, June 18
This festival has become one of the largest free music festivals in the nation drawing attendees from just about every state and from many countries. It is a celebration of the life and legacy of Henderson resident and “Father of the Blues,” William Christopher Handy. If you’re a fan of the blues, this is one you won’t want to miss.

Fridays After 5 – Owensboro (May-September)

Friday After 5 is the award-winning, summer-long series of free outdoor concerts held every Friday on the eight-block, stunningly beautiful Owensboro, Kentucky riverfront. The festival includes live bands, family events, food trucks and entertainment.  Their signature “Toast to the Sunset” takes place right on the riverfront at every Friday After 5. There are five venues of entertainment plus a fun, kid-friendly street fair and special events. No tickets.  No Fees. No Kidding.  Friday After 5 is Where the Weekend Begins.

Lincoln Amphitheatre – Lincoln City (June-October)

The Lincoln Amphitheatre entertained over 26,600 guests at last year’s events, and as they celebrate 35 years, the 2022 lineup will not disappoint.  This year’s performance schedule is packed with returning favorites and some new names.  If you didn’t know, The Lincoln Amphitheatre is one of the largest roofed amphitheatres in the country, seating 1500 people.  The 2022 season kicks off Saturday, June 4 with Indiana’s own Henry Lee Summer.

Bring your own chairs and blankets, but coolers, alcohol or pets are NOT allowed in the park during the festival per the city ordinance.

Jasper Indiana Strassenfest – Jasper

Thursday, August 4 – Sunday, August 7
Country singer & songwriter, Karen Waldrup will be performing at the Jasper Indiana Strassenfest on Friday, August 5. Karen released her first independent record in 2009 and her first full-length album, Justified, nearly a decade later. She has a dedicated fan base with many tracks reaching the top ten on the Country and Americana charts and from one of her online videos going viral with over 225 million views. Join Karen before the concert for a special VIP event.

Red, White & Brauen Music Festival – Jasper

Saturday, August 27
The Red, White, & Brauen (RWB) Music Festival returns to Jasper, Indiana, for a second year. The event takes place behind Uebelhor & Sons Toyota at 788 West 12th Avenue.  Produced by Rally Point Events, proceeds from the event will be used to purchase shoes for local children and veterans.

This year’s lineup features The Roots and Boots Tour with Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw, and Collin Raye. Pam Tillis, Ricochet, and Wade Hayes complete the stellar lineup.

Happy Trails Music & Arts Festival – Vincennes

Friday, July 29
This festival is an entire weekend jam packed with arts and live entertainment accompanied by activities, vendors, food trucks and fun for the whole family.

First City Music Festival – Vincennes

Friday, September 30 – October 2
Celebrate the heritage and culture of the music of Vincennes.  This year’s First City Music Festival will be held Friday, September 30 – Sunday, October 2 at the French Commons, 2nd & Willow St.  and will feature a great lineup of musical talent.  In addition, the festival will include a yoga garden, kids activities, vendors, food, and workshops.
